Welcome to Hart of Aussies!
We are a proud family-owned dairy farm out in central Hart County, Kentucky. We are one of the three dairies left in Hart County. My husband Brian and I, Missy, and our kids Rachel, Clay & Sarah live here on the farm with my husband’s other siblings and his parents.
How We Started
All my life growing up, my mother raised German Shepherds as far back as I could remember. Once I got married & decided I’d like to have my own German Shepherd, I soon realized that they were not farm animals. Sad to say, German Shepherds weren’t that farm family dog we were looking for.
I was gifted an Australian Shepherd by a friend of my husband’s and I actually refused to have one at first! But within a few days of some bonding, I fell in love with the Aussie breed. I started researching the breed, its coat colors, genetics, temperament, care, and anything I could learn about the breed. I reached out to a lot of other breeders that had been raising Aussies for years to educate myself.
I then purchased my 1st Merle Aussie & lifelong fur friend, Diesel. He was my baby. I got him at the age of 7 weeks and immediately started bonding and training him. I was amazed at how he caught onto the commands and how quickly he could master them! Mastered is what I call it when the dog can do the command with no treats or verbal words. He is strictly reading my body language, which I think is so important! They are learning to watch and read your body language to know what they should do.
I never allowed my husband to take Diesel to the milking parlor until he was 2 years old. I think that was a good, mature age to start him into something that hardcore and stressful. I then started my journey by purchasing the right companions for him and started my breeding history for the Aussies.
The Hart of Aussies Way
My adult dogs are treated with the most utmost respect and trained with the best quality guidelines I can come across. I research, read, and learn all my training techniques and always try to help all my puppy buyers. If I can educate myself and help them through the hard times of raising a pup, I feel like it will help them become better humans for their pets!
We genetically test all our adult dogs and try to only breed clear to very low genetic problems as possible to help better the quality of this breed. We try to exercise the pups with different toys and noises and also handle them daily to help them not have so many unknown fears of this big world.
We hope to help so many other families, farms, or just that one person that needs an animal to help keep them company, all to find them a high-quality Aussie to journey through life with!
